Drummer Ryan Zipp first picked up the sticks over 25 years ago in 4th grade band class when the teacher told him she didn’t think he could handle a saxophone at that age.  Having originally been bummed out at the denial, looking back it was the best thing that could’ve happened to him.  Performing live at venues of all sizes across the country now for almost 20 years, Zipp owes these experiences to sitting behind his drum kit.

His first band Grover Dill, a punk group, played their first show in 1996 and there was no looking back after that.  The band was able to gain a strong local/regional following and do a fair amount of DIY touring around the country until the band ended in 2004.  Playing at such venues at The Rose Bowl out in Pasadena for KIIS FM’s Wango Tango, The Meadows Music Theatre in Hartford, CT for Radio 104 Fest 3 years in a row, the legendary Toad’s Place in downtown New Haven, CT many times and even performing at the Santa Monica Pier looking out at the Pacific Ocean.  The band also performed several dates on the 2003 Vans Warped Tour.

Zipp continued playing in several pop punk bands after his first project ended but it wasn’t until 2011 that he formed what became his most successful project.  Pop rock band Beach Avenue kicked off their first shows ever by winning Mohegan Sun’s Regional Battle of the Bands, earning a regular booking slot in the casino’s Wolf Den venue and enough prize money to fund their debut EP.  In 2014 the band was selected to appear on NBC’s primetime hit show “America’s Got Talent” and performed their original songs “Coming Your Way” & “Feel The Beat”.  Although they were cut right before the live rounds of the show, Beach Avenue went on the sell over 30,000 songs on iTunes and other digital platforms.  Landing on the iTunes top singles, pop & alternative charts for several weeks in between songs by such artists as Sam Smith, One Direction, Sia, Lorde, Robin Thicke and many others.  The single “Coming Your Way” has recently just eclipsed 900,000 plays on Spotify!

Last year Beach Avenue’s lead singer Nick Fradiani competed in and won season 14 of American Idol.  Zipp spent a good chunk of 2015 on the road backing up Nick behind the kit, including a memorable performance from all the way up in Vancouver, BC (Canada) at the FIFA FanZone for the Women’s World Cup that was also broadcast live in FOX during the 3rd place game between England & Germany.  Other stops along the way included Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Napa, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Dallas, Scottsdale, Washington DC, and many more.
